AG #11 Calls for Submissions from Groups or Organizations

Art Gumbo is accepting applications from arts groups/orgs or creative groups for the Spring funding cycle. Applications are available now through Thursday, March 14, 2013. The first 7 eligible applications received by 11:59 p.m. on March 14 will qualify to compete for funding.

The next Art Gumbo Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 6-8 p.m. at St. Mark Community Center, 1201 Locust Street in Dubuque, IA. Featuring soup & bread by  East Mill Catering & Bakeshop, a community exhibit by Fun-A-Day Dubuque, and Luxe Photography will be there, too, so get ready for your close up!

ELIGIBILTY: Arts groups/orgs or groups with creative ideas whose project will impact the Dubuque community.
 
HOW IT WORKS: Arts groups/orgs or group Creatives submit a brief proposal of their project. Submitted projects will be combined into a packet. The public attends the Art Gumbo Soup Dinner, they pay $10 to get in, and this money goes into the Art Gumbo Fund for the night. The attendees enjoy the soup, review the packet of proposals, and vote for their favorite. The proposal(s) with the most votes will be awarded the Art Gumbo Fund proceeds for that night. First place & second place will split the proceeds 70/30.
FINAL REPORT: The winner(s) will be invited to the next Art Gumbo Soup Dinner to present a progress (or final) report. Volunteer support is expected by the winner(s) at the subsequent event.

AG #10 Recap: Boots & Brew!

Boots-N-Brews reigned supreme at AG #10. We tallied 77 patron votes & raised $855 at the Dec 27 soup dinner. Another great night for creativity in Dubuque!

1st Place ($593) went to custom foot wear artist Paul Opperman for his Footwear Art Exhibit. Opperman plans to curate and host an exhibit featuring handmade shoes and boots.  

"The show will consist of an opening night boot display and slide show of the shoemakers constructing the boots in the show," says Opperman. "The following afternoon will be a short talk on the process of making handmade boots with time for questions and answers with the artists." The exhibit will open in Dubuque in 2013, location TBA with the potential of a traveling exhibit as well.

2nd Place ($262) went to Jay Jubeck for the purchase of a brew kettle for his upcoming launch of a community supported brewery (CSB). Check out Jubeck New World Brewing Co. for all the details. Craft Brew is ART! 
“One of the most exciting aspects of the CSB concept is creating a community through establishing a brewery. For us, beer is more than just a product to be consumed. It’s a catalyst for deeper connections between members of our community,” says Jubeck.

We'll be commissioning more bowls for 2013! The evening included proposals by Carolyn Scherf and Ryan Decker.

Applications are available now through Thursday, December 20, 2012. 7 eligible applications received by 11:59 p.m. on December 20 will qualify to compete for funding. AG# 9 Recap: Livin' the Dream!

We celebrated AG's birthday (we turned 2!) by returning to our birthplace at Voices Warehouse Gallery and raising $1,540 (154 patron votes)! We slurped soup from Dubuque Food Coop with bread by East Mill Bakeshop & Catering and cupcakes by All Things Sweet donated by Dolphin Custom Cabinets. Happy Birthday to us!

1. Bell Tower Theater won $1,078 to help fund their “Free Summer Musical Program: HS Edition"
